TrackingPoint Night Vision

Updated: Dec 17, 2024

IR Illuminator with IR Filter Lens ("Gen-2 Like" Night Vision)

Because TrackingPoint systems are digital, you can use an IR illuminator to achieve night vision comparable to Gen-2 devices.

How It Works:

  • The red lens in front of the camera lens acts as an IR filter.

  • By moving this lens, your system can capture more IR light in low-light settings.

  • When paired with an IR illuminator, the system gains improved range and clarity at night.

Steps to Activate:

  1. Move or remove the red IR filter lens in front of the camera lens.

  2. Turn on your IR illuminator.

Range:

  • With a standard IR light, you can expect 100-150 yards of night vision range.

  • Some users with high-quality IR illuminators report ranges of 300+ yards.

System-Specific Instructions for IR Filter Lenses:

  • Ares Systems (smaller scope, batteries in the buttstock):

    • The IR filter flips down and locks into position.

  • Cascade Systems (larger scope, batteries in the scope):

    • The IR filter twists off and is held by magnets.

  • Rhino Systems (2020 Remington, scope only):

    • The IR filter also twists off and uses magnetic release.

Night Mode (Exclusive to Ares Systems)

The Night Mode feature is exclusive to Ares systems, providing additional software and visual enhancements for low-light environments.

What It Does:

  • Changes the display reticle to neon green.

  • Improves green and grey contrast for better differentiation between targets and backgrounds in night vision mode.

Benefits:

  • Enhanced target visibility at dusk or dawn.

  • Optimized performance in environments where green/grey contrast is critical.

Whether you’re hunting at dusk, dawn, or in complete darkness, these features give you the tools to maximize your TrackingPoint system's capabilities in low-light conditions.

Vivid Gen-3 Night Vision Device

  1. Mounting the Device:

    • Attach the Vivid Gen-3 Night Vision Attachment to the Picatinny rail near the TrackingPoint scope.

    • The exact placement on the rail is not critical, but it should be as close as possible to the scope for best alignment.

  2. Powering the Device:

    • Turn on both the Vivid device and your IR illuminator for enhanced night vision capabilities.

  3. Battery Recommendation:

    • The Vivid Gen-3 device operates best when powered by CR123 batteries, providing reliable and consistent performance.

Performance Highlights

  • The Gen-3 technology delivers exceptional clarity and range in low-light and no-light environments.

  • The custom mount ensures compatibility with TrackingPoint systems, allowing seamless integration of laser rangefinding capabilities.

By incorporating the Vivid Gen-3 Night Vision Attachment, your TrackingPoint system achieves a powerful enhancement for night-time operations, offering unmatched precision and visibility in the field.

Torrid Thermal Attachment

The Torrid Thermal Attachment is an advanced thermal imaging device made by Armasight FLIR Systems. Based on their Apollo-Mini Thermal Attachment, this device features a custom TrackingPoint mount, enabling seamless integration and allowing the system's laser rangefinder to pass through without obstruction.

How to Attach and Use the Torrid Thermal Device

  1. Attach the Thermal Device:

    • Secure the Torrid Thermal Attachment to the Picatinny rail, positioning it close to the TrackingPoint scope.

    • The exact placement on the rail is not critical, but it should be near the scope for optimal performance.

  2. Power On the Device:

    • Turn on the thermal device using the center button.

  3. Calibrate the Thermal Image:

    • After powering up and before removing the front cap, press the front and back arrow buttons simultaneously to recalibrate the thermal image and clear any visible lines.

  4. Optimize for Target Tracking:

    • Set the thermal device to the White Hot color mode for the best target tracking performance.

    • Both the thermal device and the TrackingPoint system are digital, so ensure they are both set to their lowest zoom settings for optimal image clarity.

  5. Battery Recommendation:

    • The Torrid Thermal device performs best with CR123 batteries, ensuring reliable operation.

Thermal Controls Overview:

  • Center Button:

    • Power the device on/off and access the settings menu.

  • Front Arrow Button:

    • Adjust the zoom level.

  • Back Arrow Button:

    • Change the color settings.

  • Front + Back Arrow Buttons Simultaneously:

    • Recalibrate the thermal image to clear any distortion or lines.

  • Front Lens:

    • Use the focus wheel to sharpen the thermal image.

Pro Tip: White Hot Mode: Recommended for optimal clarity and target acquisition.

By adding the Torrid Thermal Attachment to your TrackingPoint system, you unlock superior thermal imaging capabilities, enhancing your ability to track and engage targets in any lighting condition.
